Special Needs School Nursing Team

Welcome to the Special Needs School Nursing Page!

As a Special Needs School Nursing Team, we take enormous pride in ensuring that the children of Lancasterian are cared for by appropriately trained School Staff who are confident and competent at managing their medical needs and have support from the Nursing Team.

Our Special Needs School Nurses are part of the School's Safeguarding Team. We attend regular Safeguarding meetings and work closely with School Staff, wider NHS staff, Social Care and other agencies to identify struggling families, provide support and ensure your children are kept safe, both in Term Time and in School Holidays.

We spend a large portion of the week in school, where we can interact with and get to know your children as individuals. We wear our NHS uniforms while on site. This helps the children get accustomed to seeing healthcare professionals in a familiar environment, and we can provide further desensitisation work for children who struggle in healthcare settings.

We also organise and run supportive Clinics and Workshops for parents and carers, including:

  • School Nurse Coffee Mornings
  • Sleep Workshops
  • Puberty Coffee Mornings
  • Healthy Weight Sessions
  • Nursing Clinics
  • Bespoke Sessions where needed

The Lancasterian Special Needs School Nursing Team consists of:

Jodi Leigh - Special Needs School Nurse

Jodi's time is focused exclusively on the children at Lancasterian and she works 5 days a week, all year round. She is a Band 6 Specialist Nurse with a background in Paediatric Intensive Care and High Dependancy environments.

Lucy Drinkwater - Senior Nursing Assistant

Lucy's time is split between 2 schools, dependant on need. She is a new addition to the team and is an experienced Nursing Assistant who looks forward to getting to know your children.

Contact Details:

If you require immediate help with what you believe to be a medical emergency, please attend the nearest Accident & Emergency Department or call 999.

There is often at least one member of the team on site at Lancasterian during term time. We may however be out and about around school and therefore unable to answer the phone. If this is the case, please try again later or leave a message with school's Reception. Alternatively, you could contact our Clayton Office and leave a message - a member of our team will pick this up and forward it over. There is also a team email address that you can contact us through.

We do not advise contacting the team through our direct email addresses or mobile numbers as these will not be checked during periods of sickness or annual leave.
