A Brief History of the Lancasterian School

In order to provide an unsurpassed service to the pupils in our care, the Lancasterian school draws upon the experience of over a century of continued and committed services to children.

Originally set up as the Santa Fina School by Manchester University’s Santa Fina Society in 1906, the school took its name when it moved to the Joseph Lancaster School in New Cross, Manchester.

Following the Second World War, the school was moved to Cavendish Road, West Didsbury before finally moving to its present purpose built premises in 1973. Since the 1970s, our resources and facilities have developed to continually meet the needs of pupils with all manner of physical disabilities.

We are proud of our long and successful history, but our eyes are fixed firmly on the future as we strive to provide the best possible care, education and opportunities for everybody associated with the Lancasterian school.
